Thursday, March 21 Monthly Program

with Tricia Steege and Tione Kormanik

The use of technology in business and society will change the world more in the next ten years than in the last fifty. Today, when we think we are already overwhelmed by the speed of the movement of the world, we are only using 20% of the capability of what technology can do for us. It is no longer a “nice to have” – it is changing the way the world thinks, plans and behaves. What will be the impact for us as consultants and what change opportunities will it provide for us to influence?

Thursday, April 18 Monthly Program

This meeting will be a regrouping of folks following the Day of Healing workshop for Blacks and the White’s Confronting Racism workshop. Philadelphia is pursuing a unique process for exploring racism in our organizations and communities. At PRODN’s November monthly meeting people of color and whites learned about the experience of the Race Dialog Group. Out of that meeting came the Day of Healing and White’s Confronting Racism. Our meeting on April 18 will be a coming together of both groups to have a dialog about our learning to date. You do not have to have attended one of these workshops to join us on April 18th - All are welcome.

Thursday, June 20 Monthly Program

with Beryl Byles.

Music is a key influencer in our day to day lives, but rarely do we consider it to provide a lens into our own leadership style. This evening's program will provide entertainment as well as a thought provoking, self discovery process in which you will discover your own unique, authentic leadership style and the opportunities to apply it effectively.

New OD Academic Program Launched

OD professionalism took a giant step forward on November 27, 2001 with the start of the Master of Science (MS) in Organizational Development and Leadership (ODL) program at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). Coordinated by Larry M. Starr, PhD, the MS ODL program offices are in Rowland Hall with the MS Clinical Health Psychology and PsyD Clinical Psychology programs. Applications for the Spring 2002 term (starting March 5) will continue to be accepted into the first week of classes.

"What’s most exciting," reports Dr. Starr, "is that building the ODL program is itself an OD intervention. We assess the environment, define problems and objectives, propose solutions, test, and use the students and faculty as change agents. One example is our new educational association with PRODN. We asked if they were interested in a centralized location for workshops and committee meetings and if they would help us bring OD professionals into our academic community. We both feel this can be a growing relationship."

The MS ODL degree requires completion of 36 graduate credits (12 courses) plus a comprehensive exam, and can be completed in 1½ to 2 years. As the program is located within a medical school, it is practitioner-oriented in that it focuses on prevention and care of the "organizational body."

"So far," reports Starr, "all our students are working adults who learned about the program from their employers or visited the ODL link on the PCOM web site. While the majority enrolled to increase competencies necessary for their present jobs, a few do have plans to become OD practitioners when they graduate."

Will a doctorate in OD follow? "We’re in the doctor-business at PCOM, "says Starr, "so it sounds reasonable to me."
