On
Tuesday, October 16, PRODN hosted an evening program on Dannemiller Tyson’s
(DTA) Whole Scale™ Change, their version of a large group/system change methodology.
Five DTA consultants who were in town to conduct an in-depth session on the
process facilitated it. The 2.5-hour session was facilitated as a "microcosm"
of an entire Whole Scale™ Change event, highlighting the principles of the
process and its intended purpose of bringing everyone’s "voice"
into an organizational change process. While much of what was discussed was
not new it was covered in a structure and depth that, for those in attendance,
led to a greater understanding of the reasons for the success of large group
processes.
As with many interventions, a significant and critical portion of the work
takes place within a planning group comprised of organizational/client
representatives and DTA consultants. They co-design the specifics of the large
group meeting. During the large group meeting, DTA insures the following
principles are adhered to:
-
Micrcosm…in that you need a broad representative sampling of all
organizational members in the room with no limit on the number of people who
could potentially participate.
-
Membership…initial and subsequent activities must help participants
affirmatively answer questions about their membership in the meeting and
process (Do I belong? Will I have influence? What are we going to do
together?)
-
Values of adult learning…the cycle of action and reflection is
maintained at many intervals throughout the process
-
Open forum process…at several points in the Whole Scale™ Change
process, three questions are use to process the information being
exchanged/discussed (What did you hear? What questions of clarification do you
have? What is your reaction?)
The DTA consultants did and excellent job of explaining and demonstrating the
above principles and came across in an extremely thorough and professional
manner. What one might have expected to turn into a sales presentation remained
a true learning experience.

Program Announcement
We all search for "connection and meaning" in our lives whether
it is in our work or personal lives. It is these connections which spur us to
grow, develop and change. However, sustainable change is not possible until we
truly find a "community" in which we feel listened to, heard,
respected and accepted by others.
Come help us experience an opportunity for all voices in the room to be
heard! Dannemiller Tyson Associates will facilitate us in an evening of
creating and building our community. The evening will be designed and
conducted using the principles of Whole Scale™ Change to help us "Get
to One Brain-One Heart"! You will learn proven methods that you can
implement immediately with your clients and in your personal life. DTA’s
latest publications: Whole-Scale Change: Unleashing the Magic in
Organizations and The Whole Scale Change Toolkit will be available
for purchase.
