Appreciative Inquiry SIG

Appreciative Inquiry is an exciting philosophy for change. The major assumption of Appreciative Inquiry is that in every organization something works and change can be managed through the identification of what works and the analysis of how to do more of what works.

Appreciative Inquiry SIG: The AI SIG held meetings from June, 2000 to June, 2001 culminating in a PRODN Inquiry at Pendle Hill on June 8, 2001. Topics discussed are listed below.

Origin of the SIG: At the PRODN Open Space meeting on March 25, 2000, a seed of interest sprouted to start a Special Interest Group for Appreciative Inquiry. This followed the September, 1999 PRODN sponsored workshop led by Amanda Trosten-Bloom where several members were trained in AI and are now consulting using AI principles and philosophy.

Activities: The group has held meetings (see below). As a result of the excellent experiences we will continue meeting with the intention of exploring AI interviews and "being" with appreciative inquiry. Topics of inquiry may emerge.

Join the AI discussion list! Post your thoughts and ideas on how PRODN can continue to explore and learn about AI. Organize an event or meeting by proposing an idea and gauging interest. Send items you want posted on the SIG website page to susanowood@toast.net.

Meetings:

June 8, 2001 PRODN AI Inquiry at Pendle Hill

More than 40 people gathered to experience an Inquiry led by members of the AI SIG – Jay Cherney, Kim Eberbach, Chrissa Merron, Eileen Shanahan, Julie Spahr . Over the last year, as the SIG explored AI, an interview guide was created to inquire into 4 topics selected for being the best of what we already have and what we want to amplify in PRODN:

  • Partnering for Business
  • Personal and Professional Synergy
  • Ode to PRODN: Heart and Soul - Practical Spirituality
  • Community Outreach.

June 8 was a "golden day" in weather and spirit. Interviews were magical. Inspiration and ideas will be shared on the AI discussion list and we will move forward in discovery toward dream, design and deliver (the 4 D process). Join us to participate the on-line conversation and in generating future AI activities on the AI SIG webpage!

The next meeting or event will result from self-organizing out of the passion of the June 8 session.
