Effective Strategic Partnering:
Linking Business and Performance Needs

with Jim and Dana Gaines-Robinson

8:30 a.m. Registration and Continental Breakfast
9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Workshop

Increasingly HR, OD and Training professionals are seeking to work in more collaborative, consultative and strategic manner with their key clients. And clients are demanding it! The goal is to be “at the table” with clients, assisting them in the process of translating business plans and strategies into human performance requirements and needs.

There are two challenges associated with this goal: !) Identifying and gaining access to those individuals who qualify as “true” clients and with whom this type of strategic partnering should occur and 2) skillfully asking the “right” questions of clients in order to translate business needs into performance requirements, influencing clients to want to work more strategically.

Dana and Jim Robinson will draw from their extensive research and lead us in an interactive session to apply tools and techniques we can use to successfully address each of these challenges. If you want to be considered the effective Business Partners, you will want to be at this event!

How Can I Use This Topic in My Work?

As a result of this workshop you will be able to:

  • Utilize best practices for each of the three requirements for a strategic relationship: access, credibility and trust.
  • Reframe requests for solution into business and performance results that are required.
  • Utilize a proven interview guide to proactively identify strategic opportunities to partner with your clients.
  • Use criteria to qualify opportunities that are strategic, differentiating them from those that need to be managed in a more tactical manner.
  • Determine those individuals with whom this type of strategic partnering should be done.
  • Select actions that assist external and internal consultants to gain access to the appropriate clients.
